Zhongshan Square building group (Dalian)

Three buildings around one circular square — a civil administration office from 1908, a hotel finished in 1914, a bank from 1918 — listed together as a national protected site in 2001.

A ring of early-20th-century institutional buildings around one circular square, listed together by the State Council in 2001 as a Major Historical and Cultural Site Protected at the National Level. The Dalian Civil Administration Office dates from 1908, the Yamato Hotel was begun in 1909 and finished in 1914, and the Bank of Chosen Dalian Branch from 1918.

The square is a working traffic circle, not a pedestrian precinct, and the listed buildings front onto it directly — cross with care. The three listed here were all designed and built by Japanese institutions during the concession period, which is why the architecture reads as it does.
